Hey There, Happy Camper!

I have several friends who are big on camping. I understand how they feel, but my husband and my kids are not big on spending time in the great outdoors. My husband grew up in the big city, and he was never one for "roughing it". I guess my boys get it from their dad. LOL! Anyway, I plan on giving this card to one of my camping friends. Her birthday is the end of the month, and I think she will get a kick out of it!

You Are So Beautiful To Me (Just Add Text)

Being an adult is hard sometimes, when there are things you want to do other than be responsible. I mean, I would rather stay home and stamp instead of going to work all day. Do you feel that way too sometimes?

But I can still stamp and make things. It just takes me longer to get things finished. And if I am trying to participate in a blog challenge, well, it just doesn't alway happen on time. This is the case with this card. I finished it, but not in time to participate. But still, I got it done, and here it is!!

Remarkable You Sweater Weather #TGIFC130

Sweater weather! That is what we have been having here lately. Dark mornings on the way to work. Frost on the grass in the morning. Leaves turning all shades of red and orange and yellow. It is beautiful, but, I must admit, I am not a fan of the cold weather. But it does encourage me to stay inside and craft more!

The leaves on some of the trees around here turn a beautiful shade of gold, and some of them have tinges of pale green and orange, and this was the look I was trying to go for when I watercolored those leaves. They definitely have that Fall/Autumn look to them I think. And if you couldn't tell, this card has a Z-fold on it, with that Cable Knit embossing folder used on the front half-flap.

You've Got This Birthday Card #tgifc119

They have a really great color challenge over at TGIF Challenges this week. The challenge was to use the three Stampin' Up! colors of 1.) Pool Party, 2.) Crushed Curry, and 3.) Lemon-Lime Twist (one of this year's In-Colors...and I love it!).

I don't know about you, but I seem to use more birthday cards than anything else, so I made my card a birthday card. (I really should try to make more masculine cards, but I know more women to give cards to than men, except for my family, who are all men. Except for one of our cats...LOL!)

I stamped the large flower image on some watercolor paper, using SU!'s Archival Basic Black ink. It is waterproof and I knew that I wanted to paint it with the ink colors from the challenge. I used all three ink colors when I painted the stem and leaves. Lemon-Lime Twist was just a little too bright of a green for my liking for this large Peony-like flower, but it was the color in the challenge, so I had to figure out how to make it work. The three colors together make it really interesting. I also used the Lemon-Lime Twist for the center things of the flower, with a little bit of Pool Party thrown in for good measure! What do you think?

Garden Girl Emboss Resist Challenge (#tgifc118)

Boy this was a tough challenge for me. My collection of stamps did not lend itself well to what I wanted to do for this TGIF Challenge. Nothing like taking it almost right down to the wire either! LOL!

I am really glad that Stampin' Up! decided to bring back their Glossy Card Stock too. You can do some really cool ink blending with this stuff! My card is a Z-Fold card, with a background made using the emboss resist technique, which is what the challenge was. So many cute samples over on the TGIF Challenge blog! Take a look at my card:

I've Got the "Summertime Blues"! #tgifc117

What a fun challenge this has been this week over at tgifchallenges.blogspot.com! The theme is "Summertime Blues" and the idea behind it is to use blue...any shade, as many shades as you want, etc...as long as there is some blue, you are good to go! (I don't think you had to stick with just blue, though, as long as there is at least a touch of blue in your card!)

I had this thought in my head about what I wanted to do. It turned out a little different than I was imagining, but I really like it! Take a look:

If you are wondering how I colored her dress, I used the Sponge Daubers. I tapped the dauber in the Pool Party ink pad and then colored 1/3 of the stamp. Then I did the same with the Marina Mist ink pad, and then the Night of Navy ink pad last, using a different sponge dauber in each color. I lightly over-lapped each color to help them blend a bit. Then I breathed onto the stamp to moisten the ink back up and and carefully stamped over the top of the outline of the lady. It turned out really cute, I think! I just used an Aqua Brush to add color to the hat (Pool Party), and her skin (Powder Pink).

Now you might be thinking, "Hmm, Stampin' Up! doesn't make blue rhinestones!" I used a blue Sharpie pen to color a couple of Rhinestone Basic Jewels to get a little bit of blue sparkle on my card!  And the little blue hearts? They came from the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. It has the cutest little heart on it!

A Truly Artistic Color Challenge -- #tgif115

I love to do the challenge blogs. I know I haven't done very much of it lately...because...well, you know...LIFE. Anyway, I was checking out some of my favorite ones, and saw this one over on tgifchallenges.blogspot.com. It was a color challenge this week, using some of Stampin' Up!'s new In-Colors for 2017-2019. The colors are: Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst, and Tranquil Tide. I really like how it turned out. Just a few things about how I made this card. On the background, most of the blocks of color I stamped off once on a piece of scrap paper, so they wouldn't be quite so dark. And I fussy-cut the flower stem embellishment. I know. It would have been nice to have a die that cut it out, but I guess we can't have everything we want. (LOL!) The upper piece of Whisper White card stock is mounted on the Foam Adhesive Strips to give it some extra lift. And the die-cut circle and flower stem are just lifted up on regular Stampin' Dimensionals. I colored the flower stem using the ink pads and a blender pen. I gave a little shading to the leaves and stem with a touch of Tranquil Tide.

Merry Everything Card #tgifc79

Over on the TGIF Challenge Blog this past week, they have been trying out a new challenge. It is called the Designer Spotlight Challenge, and the designer this week is Krista Frattin. Krista is a member of the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team, and she is A-MA-ZING!

I created the holly leaves by punching a 1-3/4" circle. Then, using the same punch, I punched two leaf shapes from that one circle. Then I took the 3/4" circle and reverse-scallop punched the edges so that they looked like holly leaves. The berry was a 1/2" circle punch.

When trying to decide what to use as inspiration, I went over to Pinterest to find some of Krista's boards to be inspired for my card. And boy did I find some! She has some very amazing boards, and they are linked to her wonderful blog. Here is the card that inspired my creation.

TGIF Color Challenge #tgifc67 : Suite Sayings Thank You Card

Life is so hard sometimes, and sometimes we can't always do what we want to do, can we? That is how it has been lately with stamping. I had some issues with my legs recently and so I had to keep them elevated...which makes it difficult to sit at my desk and create. So I colored in my big easy chair, when I had good light, until I was able to be up and about and able to sit at my desk. And I LOVED IT! If my life was perfect, I would create and make cards and scrapbook to my heart's content. But in the meanwhile, I will do what I can when I can.

Over at TGIF Challenge Blog, they have a color challenge this week, #tgifc67 . The colors are Smoky Slate, Island Indigo, and Flirty Flamingo. This is the first time I have used Flirty Flamingo. I don't know why I haven't used it yet. It is one of my favorite new In-Colors, along with Dapper Denim. I must have been saving it up to use on something really special. And boy, do I love this card! I think it turned out amazing! Love, love, love it! Take a look:

Hello Watercolor Card #tgifc65

I made today's card in response to the challenge blog "TGIF Challenges". The challenge  ( #tgifc65 ) was to cut something out and use it on your project. It could be die cut, fussy cut, or even punched. You just had to CUT something out. My card used die cutting, using my Sizzix Big Shot and two different die sets. I was also inspired by Kristina Werner's blog post from a couple days ago where she watercolored her background. You can see her post here: http://www.kwernerdesign.com/blog/?p=16235

I used a piece of watercolor paper that was 5 inches wide by 3-3/4 inches high. I sprayed both sides with water to help prevent it from curling up on me while I was painting it. and to also help the ink to blend together and spread.  I squeezed a few drops of Melon Mambo ink refill into the lid of it's corresponding ink pad, and also squeezed a few drops of Calypso Coral ink refill into the lid of it's corresponding ink pad. Then I took one of my aqua painters, loaded up my aqua brush with water and some of the Melon Mambo re-inker and started painting along the top of the wet watercolor paper. I painted about 1-1/4 inches and then I cleaned out my brush. Then, I picked up some of the Calypso Coral with my aqua brush and started to paint underneath the Melon Mambo. I wanted the two colors to blend so I went over the first color close to where I had stopped painting to mix the two colors slightly. (Remember, my paper is pretty wet, so the color was being pulled down by gravity a bit.) I used less and less ink the closer I got to the bottom, so that it would become lighter and lighter. After the paper dried (I helped it out a bit by using my heat tool), I wanted to give it the look of having little water droplets splattered on it. I wasn't sure if I actually dripped water on it, if it would look like I wanted it to, so I decided to use one of the splatter stamps from the "Gorgeous Grunge" stamp set. I used Whisper White craft ink, and I really like how it turned out. I think it looks great, and I love the colors! I also decided to turn the watercolor paper upside down so that the Melon Mambo was on the bottom instead of at the top so that it didn't feel so top-heavy.

Now, like I mentioned earlier, the TGIF challenge was to use something you cut out on your project, so I decided to use the "Hello You" Thinlits Dies, and also the "Bloomin' Heart" Thinlits Dies. I layered the little flower dies to give them some dimension, and on the greeting, I cut out four "hello" dies. I layered all four of them one on top of the other to give it some depth also.

Moroccan Nights Lantern card - #tgifc59

Can you believe it?! Two posts in the same week?!! What is up with THAT!!!?

Okay, I have been feeling inspired by the Moroccan Nights stamp set. So many beautiful inspiration pieces on my inspiration board on Pinterest that I just had to make something else! I was inspired...but it did take me three tries to get my focal piece to where I liked it. I really like the Bokeh technique on it. The colors are much more brilliant in person. I was also inspired with the sketch challenge over at the TGIF Challenge blog, #tgifc59.

#tgifc30 - White Christmas

So, I saw that the theme for the current challenge over at TGIF Challenges Blog was "White Christmas, and I just happened to have made this card recently, so I thought, "Perfect! Until I went to write this post and realized that the "Bright and Beautiful" stamp set was retired last year! (What!!?) Oh well.  I still think it turned out really pretty.

So the challenge is themed "White Christmas". I think it fits. Here it is:

"Another Thank You" Card

Back in July I attended Stampin' Up!'s North American convention. As always, it was amazing, and inspiring. One of the classes I attended was a panel of three successful demonstrators who showed us many wonderful projects and fun ideas. One of the demonstrators was Erica Cerwin, and I was so inspired by a project she shared. She had taken a piece of Stampin' Up! Window Sheet and had cut a "wave" from one side to the other. Kind of like a tilda "~", only bigger of course. Then you use your sponge dauber to rub your ink across the split window sheet opening. You move you window sheet up and align it so that you can make a new wave in a lighter color. I used some washi tape to hold it in place as I rubbed my dauber over my cardstock. Her cards were beautiful.

After convention was over and everyone was back home, I was sitting at my desk, cruising the internet for something to create. I came across a challenge that was from TGIFChallenges blog. It was a throw down challenge, but I had never done one before, so I did it wrong, and used supplies that were not part of the challenge. Since I had not done it correctly, I could not enter it into the challenge, but I still loved the card anyway. I was inspired by Erica to create these "waves" of color across the card front. It makes me think of ocean waves and a sunset. Erica did such a beautiful job, and I hope my card does her credit!

#TGIFC18 August Remix FAIL!- Kinda Eclectic

OMGosh! Two posts in one week! I don't believe it! I was trying to get my post done and  downloaded to the TGIF Challenge blog, but I didn't make it in time.  So much to do, so little time! Oh well, I guess I can still post it here and hopefully you can still enjoy it.

Accessories: Elegant Butterfly Punch, Bitty Butterfly Punch, Stampin' Emboss Powder: Clear, Stampin' Sponges, Tea Lace Paper Doilies, Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Dimensionals, Tombow Liquid Glue

As you can see I embossed the sunburst image! I love heat embossing! Then I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the stamp with the Pool Party dots all the way down the same piece of card stock. I didn't want the dots to cover the sunburst, and that is why I embossed it first. It is a technique called "Emboss Resist". I also stamped off some of the Pool Party ink each time I stamped it on the bottom layer so that they got lighter and lighter as it went from the bottom of the piece to the top. I wanted it to look like it was fading out.

#TGIFCTD03 - Flower Patch Card

I like to do stamping challenges, but I don't always have them done in time, or they aren't quite what the challenge was supposed to be about, or whatever. Anyway, today I actually got one of the challenges done...in time...and it meets all the qualifications posted by those who are issuing the challenge. And I like it! So here it is:

Supplies: All supplies are from Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:

Stamp Sets: Flower Patch

Inks: Calypso Coral, Pear Pizzazz, Basic Black (Archival)

Cardstock: Whisper White, Pool Party

Accessories: White Tea Lace Paper Doily, Baker's Twine White, Stampin' Sponge, Paper Snips,  Dimensionals, Tombow Liquid Glue

Here is the challenge. You choose at least 4 of the following:

And these are the items you can use if you want, but no other supplies. You know, the basic stuff you keep in your pantry:

I really enjoyed doing this challenge. It made me stretch my imagination to make it look how I wanted. Here are a couple other views. 

 As you can see, I  used the baker's twine, knotted up several times, to create the center of the flower. I really like the dimension that it adds to the flower.

This is a different kind of fold on the card. The Pool Party base is just a single layer of 

5-1/2" x 4-1/4". Then there is another layer of Whisper White that I sponged with the Pear Pizzazz ink to create a mat for the final top Whisper White layer. This is the layer that is folded (on the side) that you open up to write your greeting. I know that there is a bit of fussy cutting, but we were not supposed to use the Big Shot dies to cut out the flowers and leaves.
